Seven Messy Babies

Soap gentle enough for babies, luxurious enough for a spa.

About Us

Welcome to Seven Messy Babies, where we have fun making messes AND cleaning up!

I’m Katy, owner, soap maker, designer, photographer, and mommy extraordinaire of Seven Messy Babies. Yes, they’re all mine! In fact, we’ve even added an EIGHTH messy baby to the mix! I have seven sweet girls (including a set of triplets) and one squishy boy. No, I’m not SuperMom. I just do what I can, when I can. And I pray. A LOT.

Having babies certainly changes everything, including how we view everyday products, like soap! When my triplets were babies, we dealt with dry itchy skin, rashes, and eczema. After trying what felt like everything under the sun, including prescriptions, all to no avail, a friend mentioned natural soap. After researching commonly used ingredients in store soaps and skincare products, I was appalled to see the detergents, preservatives, and potentially toxic ingredients approved as “safe.” So I looked at the alternatives and bought some handmade soap, wondering if it might help. Having been a strictly-liquid-soap girl myself, I couldn’t believe the difference I saw and felt in my own skin and my babies’ skin after a few short days of using a bar of real, handcrafted soap. I was HOOKED! And I had to try my own hand at making it.

When I made my very first batch of soap, my husband congratulated me on stepping back I time 200 years. I took that as a compliment, though that’s certainly not how he intended it! But after using it himself, he soon became a believer, too, and now supports my passionate endeavors to spread the soapy love with whoever will listen and try it out! In fact, you’ll often find him building soap molds for me, making more curing racks, or helping me label and package orders.

We can happily say that handcrafted soap has changed our family’s skin for the better, and we love to share it! When you or your children have a skin problem that you can’t seem to figure out, it’s all-consuming and miserable. Do you have dry, itchy skin all winter long? Or maybe cracked hands from washing several times a day? Bumps on the backs of your arms? Nasty diaper rash? A serious skin problem like psoriasis, or allergies to certain ingredients in commercial soap? We know how horrible it is to deal with skin problems, and we firmly believe that handcrafted REAL soap with no detergents or artificial preservatives will help.

I love creating a very practical, useful product that is good for your skin and delightful to your senses, too. After years of learning and practicing, my favorite way to make soap is with the cold process method which allows me to create beautiful, intricate swirls and fun designs. From simple unscented milk soaps to intricately swirled bars made with champagne and silk, you’ll have fun finding your favorites and sharing with your friends and family. Each batch of soap is made with natural food grade oils, raw butters, and special additives like silk and colloidal oatmeal using recipes I’ve created to make them extra nourishing and bubbly. We like make bath time fun, for you and your babies!
